Congress MP Bats For The Proposal To Make Priyanka contest from Kanya Kumari

Update: 2021-03-06 05:19 GMT
With the much-awaited Tamil Nadu Assembly election is fast approaching, the state wing of Congress is busy picking suitable candidates. The candidates' list will be announced on March 10th.

Amid this, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram batted for the idea to make Priyanka Gandhi Vadra contest from the Kanya Kumari Lok Sabha constituency in the forthcoming by-polls.

Stating that the Congress party needs a bold move to give a josh to the cadre of the Indian National Congress, he urged Gandhi's family scion to contest from the coastal town Kanya Kumari.

The MP has even written to the Tamil Nadu Congress election committee to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the party candidate for the  Kanyakumari by-elections.

Karti Chidambaram claimed that if Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wins from the Kanya Kumari seats, then the Congress party and the alliance will taste a resounding and overwhelming victory.

However, this is not the first time Karti Chidambaram wanted Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Tamil Nadu. Back in November 2020, he urged her to contest from any constituency in the state.

The Kanya Kumari Lok Sabha fell vacant with the demise of H. Vasanthakumar. He breathed his last in August last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Let us see how the Congress party responds to the request.

In the previous elections, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) claimed 134 seats, while the BJP won four seats. The DMK and Congress had won 80 and eight seats respectively.
