The newly-constituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) favoured Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. A resolution has been passed in this regard by the highest decision making body of the Congress.
Odisha Congress President Niranjan Patnaik demanded Special Category Status for Odisha as well if AP receives such benefits. Quickly, AICC Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi intervened to say no other states should raise any objection over Special Category Status to AP.
Sonia Gandhi maintained AP incurred huge loss due to bifurcation and hence Special Status was announced by treating it as a special case. She made it clear, 'AP can't be compared with other states in this aspect. There is no question of backtracking on the crucial promise'.
Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, asserted Congress Party is committed to accord Special Status to AP. He ordered Party Leaders not to raise any objection in this matter.
