Finally, there is a reason for the Congress Party to celebrate in Andhra Pradesh. Since 2014, the party has never tasted victory. In fact, it could not retain even security deposits in over 95 per cent of the seats it contested in the state. But, the panchayat elections gave it some cheer.

In fact, the Congress Party has won one sarpanch seat. Yes.  In the first phase of the local body polls in Andhra Pradesh, where elections were held for 3249 sarpanch posts, the Congress Party has won one seat. This is the first victory since 2014.  In Chilkuru village of Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Mylavaram assembly constituency, Congress candidate Gondi Suresh has won in a three-cornered contest. The YSRCP came second and the TDP third. This was a cause for celebrations for the Congress workers, who exploded fire crackers, sang and danced.

The Congress lost the people's support after the bifurcation of the state in 2014. Till 2014, the party was in power for continuous ten years from 2004. After that the Congress was all but wiped out in Andhra Pradesh . This is the first scent of victory for the party in eight years.
