The Congress and the Telugu Desam are inching closer and might soon announce an election pact in Andhra Pradesh. Another proof of the TDP and the Congress coming closer was seen in Rajya Sabha recently during the election to the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee. The TDP which has just six seats in the Rajya Sabha has fielded MP CM Ramesh.
Know who helped him in getting elected? It's the Congress Party. The Congress has voted in favour of the TDP candidate and enabled him to win the elections. After winning, Ramesh also thanked Congress saying his victory was due to 'Opposition' unity. The TDP, which is friendless in Andhra Pradesh after BJP and Jana Sena left it, is fighting a formidable enemy - the YSRCP. The TDP feels by aligning with Congress in AP, it can get marginal benefit in at least 5-10 seats. Secondly, it would prevent a Congress-YSRCP alliance. So, Chandrababu thinks aligning with Congress will have double benefit. The Congress too wants TDP to support it in Telangana and also at the Centre.
So, decades of anti-Congressism will soon be a thing of past for the TDP and one might soon see Chandrababu hug Rahul Gandhi in public.
