Congress to start its own TV channel on April 24

Update: 2021-04-15 05:22 GMT
After being in the opposition for over eight years, the Congress Party has now realised that it needs a TV channel of its own. Interestingly, the party realised this quite late. In fact, most regional parties have not just one but two, three even four TV channels to influence the voters. The Congress has woken now. As they say, better late than never.

The party will now officially launch its INC TV on April 24.  April 24 is Panchayat Raj Day and it was Rajiv Gandhi, who gave lot of importance to panchayat raj institutions. The channel will help the party reach out to the people.  On Ambedkar birth anniversary, the party has released its vision document for the INC TV. Speaking on the occasion, leader of the party in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Khage and party's official spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the TV would air eight hours of live content.

As of now, the party's TV channel will air content only in English and Hindi. The regional languages would follow. And this might take some time. So, it would be several more months before the party broadcasts all its programmes in the main regional languages.

Interestingly, party's key leader Kapil Sibal had in fact launched a TV channel soon after the party's defeat in 2019. He had roped in senior hands like Barkha Dutt for his TV channel. But, the channel soon wound up leaving the journalists high and dry.
