Congress: Utterly lonely, even UPA partners forsake the Grand Old Party
The Congress Party's isolation appears to be almost complete. Even when the Enforcement Directorate has served summons on AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi, none of the non-BJP regional parties has come out in their support. No alliance partner, including the Shiv Sena, spoke expressing solidarity with Sonia and Rahul.
Shiva Sena merely wrote an article in its mouthpiece Saamna and did pretty much nothing. What is more? All the UPA alliance partners are keeping safe distance from the Congress Party. Take for instance the recent Rajya Sabha elections. No friendly party consulted the Congress on Rajya Sabha elections.
In Jharkhand, where the Congress is an alliance partner in the government, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha unilaterally announced the candidate. It did not even bother to talk to the Congress, which wanted the seat. In Bihar last year, Laloo Prasad Yadavâs RJD declared candidates unilaterally for the two bypolls. Protesting against this, the Congress had put up candidates. But, the Congress candidates ended up losing their security deposits.
In UP, neither the Samajwadi Party nor the BSP are interested in talking to the Congress Party. The Congress had to fight alone and lost very badly. So frustrated at the non-cooperation by the alliance partners that the Congress has summoned all its MPs to come to Delhi to support Rahul Gandhi when he goes to present himself before the ED in the National Herald case.
