Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on Monday said there is no political agenda behind the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and there is no question of injustice with anyone. The controversial bill, tabled by Home Minister Amit Shah received 293 votes in favour of its introduction, while 82 votes were against the bill. The Opposition parties led by the Congress created a ruckus in the House as Amit Shah introduced the Bill in the House.
Opposition parties such as the Congress, NCP, AIUDF, Samajwadi Party have said that they will oppose the Bill, on the other hand, AIADMK and TRS have made it clear that they will back the government over it.
The bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The bill has triggered protests in northeastern states with a large section of people, organisations and opposition parties opposing the bill.
