Cops Face Suspension Over Security Scare At Cm's Son's Wedding!

Update: 2021-10-14 09:29 GMT
Navjit Singh, son of recently appointed Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi got married on Sunday. The marriage was held in Mohali. More than the marriage, the inappropriate behavior of the cops at the event made it to the headlines.

After the incident kickstarted a big controversy, the government swung into action and called for a probe. The additional director general of police (ADGP, intelligence) was given the responsibility of conducting the probe. He had detected a few flaws in the security at the time of the marriage event.

Holding them responsible for what happened at the marriage, the inspector general of police had dismissed four cops, one inspector, and three constables going by the letter that was written by the ADGP, intelligence.

It has been widely reported that the police personnel consumed alcohol and entered the venue and danced there. They even made their way inside the palace, the venue of the marriage.

The suspensions were done on the grounds of being negligent while rendering their services as they were deployed at the Palace to take care of the security. They paid for their mistake after getting suspended.

It was also found out that the cops who were assigned for the security didn't pay attention at the event. Seeing this a few guests and cops too entered the venue after consuming alcohol at the marriage.

As per the media reports, a senior police officer has written to the Punjab Director General of Police over the incident listing out the security breaches at the Chief Minister's Son's Marriage. The cop had mentioned that a few police personnel including men and women cops didn't perform their duties.

The Police officer had also mentioned that the absence of CCTV Cameras at the Palace was also a reason for the security breach. This enabled people to walk through the function as a VIP. Even the "ladies sangeet function" saw similar scenes. Women cops were spotted at the function enjoying the situation by having food and beverages.

Navjit Singh tied the knot with Simrandheer Kaur last week. The bride holds an Engineering Degree. As per the Sikh tradition, the wedding was held at a Gurudwara, the holy space for Sikhs.
