Massive spurt in Corona cases across the Telangana state has put the parents of the prospective brides and grooms in a fix. The rapid spread of the Covid 19 means that the wedding functions will have to be low key and have to follow all the quarantine measures. This is spreading uncertainty among the parents and the owners of the function halls alike.
The marriage season is likely to begin from May 6 and the Covid seems to be showing no signs of abating. There are three good Muhurtams between April 24 and April 29. After that there are auspicious muhurtams on May 6, 14, 22, 23, 26, 28 and 30. On May 22 alone, over 50000 weddings would be performed. According to sources, there are auspicious muhurtams even in June and July. A total of 1.5 lakh weddings could happen during these months. With corona restrictions in full force, the parents are down-scaling the guest list and the wedding arrangements. Many are postponing their weddings and are demanding their advance amounts back. Also, a large number of parents are demanding that the wedding time be changed from night to day time in view of the night curfew.
This would mean a great loss of business for over 1400 function halls on the outskirts of the city and another 1200 unauthorised function halls. In addition, there are hundreds of banquet halls and gardens in the city, which would be affected.
