Corruption: Jail Term increased to 7 Years!

Government of India approved enhancement of the minimum punishment for accepting or offering bribes from 6 Months to 3 Years. When it comes to Maximum Imprisonment, The imprisonment period goes up to 7 Years from existing 5 Years.

The Union Cabinet has given its consent to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 by pursuing the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 which is currently pending in Rajya Sabha. This crucial decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who pledged to curb corruption in any form prior to 2014 General Elections.

These amendments are aimed at tackling corruption in the country. An imprisonment of 7 Years brings corruption under henius crime category. Corruption by public servants would be treated as criminal misconduct and possession of disproportionate assets will only land them in trouble.
