Normally, municipal elections are a very ordinary affair. Many a time, the battle is left to the local MLA. But even an ordinary election could become a life-and-death battle if it is Kuppam. Kuppam battle is turning out to be a battle of high stakes. The ruling YSRCP and the TDP are pulling all stops and are marshaling all resources to win the election.
Ministers and senior MLAs are camping on behalf of the YSRCP. At the same time, both Chandrababu and Lokesh are spearheading the campaign for the TDP candidates. This perhaps is the first time that Chandrababu is campaigning in Kuppam in many decades. The father-son duo is covering every nook and corner in Kuppam town.
What is disconcerting is that both the parties have reportedly emptied their money bags to 'buy' votes. Sources say that both the parties are trying to outdo one another. If sources are to be believed, the current asking rate for the vote is Rs 6000. This is equal to the âvalueâ of vote in Huzurabad. The parties are said to be offering Rs 6000 per vote. In addition, those who receive the money are being asked to take an oath in the name of the God that they would vote for the party that gave them money.
Kuppam has 25 wards. Of them, one has already gone into the YSRCP kitty as it was unanimous. An intense fight is on in the other 25 wards. The YSRCP and the TDP are fighting as it this were a last-ditch battle.
