Covid-19 Does Not Affect Taste Buds

Update: 2020-08-08 09:34 GMT
Contrary to the previous findings, scientists at the University of Georgia in the United States have clarified that the propaganda that inability to recognize taste is a Covid-19 symptom is not true.

According to the study, the deadly virus enters human cells through angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) on the surface of some cells, including those of the human tongue.

By analysing data from oral cells of adult mice, the study found that ACE2 was enriched in cells that give the tongue its rough surface, but couldn't be found in most taste bud cells.

That means the virus probably does not cause taste loss through direct infection of these cells, the researchers said.
