Covid-19 Vaccine In India: Govt Looking At Other Options Than Pfizer!

Update: 2020-12-14 08:28 GMT
The US-based multinational pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer's vaccine candidate got the due approvals from the United States Food and Drug Administration for the emergency use of its vaccine. The shipment has also started.

However, Pfizer is said to face a brutal shock over getting approval for the emergency use of vaccination in India as the union government is allegedly looking at other options of vaccine candidates.

Reports claimed that the high price quoted by Pfizer is the main reason which forced the union government to keep Pfizer's vaccine candidate on hold and look at other available options.

The vaccine candidate developed by Pfizer is said to be priced at a high price of $37 (Rs 2,728) per candidate. India is said to be not happy with the high price quoted by the pharma giant.

On the other hand, the Russian-made Covishield' jointly manufactured by Oxford-AstraZeneca is priced at $10 (Rs 737) which is four times less priced compared to Pfizer.

The union government is also looking at the additional arrangements required to store the Pfizer vaccine candidates which need to be stored at minus 70 degree Celsius temperature. This adds more burden on the country.

India, the second-most populous country in the world which has a large population of 1.35 billion people, needs to procure 1,35 billion vaccine candidates. If India procures Pfizer's this will surely be a piece of huge baggage on India which suffered a huge loss with Coronavirus.

Taking all these points into consideration we can predict that the chances of Pfizer vaccine coming to India are very low. We may have to wait for some more time for the vaccine candidates.

Looks like the vaccine to India is likely to come from 'Covishield' and the three vaccines in India which are in the final stage of clinical trials are likely to come.

Looking at Pfizer, the shipment of vaccine candidates in the United States has started and the vaccination program is expected to start very soon. Initially, 6.4 million vaccine doses will be distributed in the US.
