Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been allotted Prisoner Number 1997 after being sentenced to 20 Years in Jail for rape of two Sadhvis in 2002. After undergoing medical tests, Jail Authorities made the Dera Chief remove his flamboyant clothes and wear Jail Uniform.
According to prison staff, Ram Rahim wept continuously, stopped eating solid food and refused to speak to anyone since he was convicted in the rape case. He just kept taking sips of water and milk once in a while.
