Devastating: 9,02,291 patients are on oxygen support, 1,70,841 patients are on ventilators!

Devastating situations pertaining to the Covid-19 outbreak continue to prevail in India. With more and more people getting infected with the deadly virus, people are finding it difficult to get admission to the hospital.

As an eye-opener on the harsh reality, the Union Government said, not less than 9,02,291 patients were put on oxygen support, while 1,70,841 pandemic patients in the country.

Addressing the 25th meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) virtually to discuss the Corona situation, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said 1.34 percent of Covid-19 caseload are in ICU, while 3.70 percent of the pandemic patients were put on oxygen supply.

During the virtual meeting, the Union Health Minister said as many as 4,88,861 Coronavirus patients were on ICU beds and 1,70,841 patients were on ventilators. 9,02,291 patients were on oxygen support, he added.

K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog member informed the members who were present at the meeting on what are the efforts made to improve the hospital infrastructure to provide treatment for the Covid patients who were hospitalised.

Giridhar Aramane, Secretary, Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (Chair, EG-2) said in the meeting that, to see that the current demand is met, the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) production has been maximised.

Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Chemical and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare and Dr. Vinod K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog attended the virtual meeting.
