It now appears almost certain that the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee will not have a new president at least till the Nagarjuna Sagar bypolls are over. The party leadership now says that the new PCC chief would be appointed only after the Nagarjuna Sagar bypolls.
This means that the party would be nothing short of a headless chicken. It has a PCC chief who has already resigned and is reluctant to continue. It has several claimants to the post who are sulking and seething over the delay. Most importantly, it has a key election which it should win come hell or high fire. If it loses the election, the party would be all but dead. Yet, the election would be fought without a formal head for the party state unit.
Sources say that the suggestion to defer the appointment of the new PCC chief has come from Jana Reddy himself. Jana, it is being said, has consented to be the party candidate from Nagarjunasagar only on the condition that the party president's post should be filled only after the bypoll. Jana reportedly does not want the bickering to hit his chances in the bypoll. So, for now, the party will go to the polls under the leadership of Uttam Kumar Reddy, who has already resigned and is continuing as a stop-gap leader.
