Update: 2020-10-16 10:20 GMT
Hours before gearing for a high-intense match against Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma, Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has stepped down as  Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) captain.

England cricket team limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan will lead the KKR team in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. The franchise confirmed the news on its website.

KKR management issued an official statement in this regard in which it said, Dinesh Karthik wanted to shed his gloves as captain to focus on his batting and contribute to the team.

On its official website, the team management said, they are fortunate to have leaders like Dinesh Kumar, who put the team first and said to take such decisions, it takes a lot of courage.

His decision to quit the captaincy came in the light of severe criticism he has been facing in this edition. His decisions like making changes in the batting order attracted criticism from critics and fans.

KKR made Dinesh Karthik as skipper in 2018 after Gautam Gambhir bid goodbye to the team.
