Disqualified TRS MLCs Legal Battle

Update: 2019-02-21 16:07 GMT
Three TRS MLCs (Ramulu Naik, Yadava Reddy and Bhupathi Reddy) shifted loyalties to Congress after denial of Assembly Tickets. They had unsuccessfully contested on Congress Ticket in the 2018 Telangana Assembly Polls. Soon after forming the Government, TRS Leadership managed to disqualify all the three MLCs on grounds of anti-party activities.

Ramulu Naik, Yadava Reddy and Bhupathi Reddy has moved the court against their disqualification. They were able to obtain a stay order on the three MLC Seats for now. Ramble Naik claims he is neither a TRS Member nor Congress Member, but received MLC Nomination in Governor Quota. Yadava Reddy and Bhupathi Reddy claim they got elected as MLCs under Local Bodies quota on non-party basis. All these three MLCs argue that anti-defection law isn't applicable to them as they were elected on the B-Form issued by TRS.

On Thursday, Election Commission issued a notification to conduct elections for Five MLC Seats. While the term of Four MLCs (Shabbir Ali, T Santosh Kumar, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Mohammed Saleem) came to an end, Konda Murali resigned following revolt against TRS Leadership.
