E-Vehicle Explosion: Do We Need Strict Rules and Regulations?

Given the soaring prices of petrol and diesel, many people started using electric vehicles. The usage of such vehicles is on a rise in India. However, the incidents of vehicles exploding are also increasing. Not just Northern states, even the Southern states are also seeing similar incidents.

Raising a lot of questions about the future of the electric two-wheelers and the safety offered by them, an electric two-wheeler is believed to have exploded leaving three injured and one dead. The issue was reported from the temple city Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

Going into detail, one Shiva Kumar, who hails from Vijayawada has an electric vehicle. As the vehicle runs on battery, he started charging his battery. All of a sudden, the battery exploded. The room in which the battery was kept for charging was filled with smoke and the electronic goods like fans were destroyed.

Thanks to the neighbors, the victims were taken to the nearby hospital. Though Shiva Kumar could not make it to life, his wife and children developed injuries. As his wife is believed to have developed serious injuries, she is placed under treatment.

A similar incident was reported from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh earlier. The recent incident marks the second incident in Andhra Pradesh. Cities like Pune also reported identical incidents.

People are showing interest in buying electric vehicles. However, the vehicles reporting explosions at regular intervals are inculcating fear among the consumers and people that the vehicles are not safe. In all these incidents, battery explosion is the reason behind the blast or catching fire.

Multiple incidents had shed light on the importance of having strict guidelines for electric vehicle manufacturers. The companies cannot blame technical issues or over speeding whenever such an incident is reported.'

Recently, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari warned the electric vehicle manufacturers as multiple explosive incidents were reported from various parts of the country. He said that the Union Government will not shy away from defaulting the companies if the mistake is from their side. As a result, the PURE EV Company that is into manufacturing the electric vehicles had recalled many vehicles to look into the technical issues.
