BJP Chief Amit Shah wrote a letter to the Law Commission recently expressing the readiness to conduct 11 States Assembly Polls along with 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Much to the shock of the ruling party, Election Commission ruled out any possibility of Jamili Elections in 2019.
Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat made it clear Election Commission doesn't have the required number of VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) Machines for simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls.
As per an estimate, As many as 34 lakh Ballot Units, 27 lakh VVPAT Machines and 26 lakh Control Units will be needed for Jamili Elections.
First of all, Amendments to the Constitution should be done for Jamili Polls. Only then, Election Commission will be able to assess the requirement and place order for new equipment. Just Two PSU Manufacturers (Bharat Electronics Ltd [BEL], Electronics Corporation of India Ltd [ECIL]) will be delivering Ballot Units and Control Units. So, It's a time taking process!
