Until 2009 Elections, Politicians used to visit almost all the streets in their constituency for the sake of votes. Trend of using Social Media very aggressively for the sake of votes began in 2014. This played a crucial role in bringing BJP back to power at the Centre with unbelievable majority.

Ahead of the upcoming 5 States Assembly Polls, Candidates had begun e-campaign on the social media. Special Teams have been working for their victory round the clock. Politicos have been using Phone Numbers & e-mail IDs of voters in their constituencies to win their trust.

Finally, Election Commission has decided to focus on the expenditure of e-campaigning. Chief Election Commissioner Rawat held a meeting with Social Media Service Providers recently. He ordered them to provide information regarding the e-campaigns of candidates and total expenditure. Estimates of e-campaign expenditure would be forwarded to the Candidates for seeking their explanation.

Facebook, Google and Twitter informed Election Commission that an algorithm has been prepared to remove Fake Posts on their platforms automatically. They agreed to observe Silence Period from 2 days before the polling.
