Election Commission announced it's ready to hold Assembly and Lok Sabha Polls simultaneously by Sept 2018.
Election Commissioner OP Rawat told EC has asked for funds to procure new EVMs and VVPAT Machines for making necessary arrangement for conducting Assembly and Lok Sabha polls together. 'We will be receiving 40 lakh VVPAT machines by September 2018,' he informed.
The importance of VVPAT Machines have grown after 16 Political Parties moved Supreme Court seeking replacing of EVMs with Ballot Papers. VVPAT is a machine which dispenses a slip with the symbol of the party for which an individual has voted.
Mr.Rawat says it's up to the Centre to take a decision on simultaneous polls and making necessary legal amendments for its implementation.
EC launched an App, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) network, which is meant to conduct the elections efficiently.
