The image of the national capital Delhi changed post the heinous Nirbhaya case in 2012. After that Delhi was ranked as one of the unsafe places for women and the national capital has been living up to the reputation. A few weeks back a girl was brutally killed and chopped by her live-in partner.
On the Eve of new year, a girl passed away after she was dragged by a vehicle on the roads for a few kilometers. As her body was struck beneath a car that hit her two-wheeler she sustained serious injuries and passed away. The issue created a big uproar.
Now another issue was reported from Delhi. The victim is none other than the DCW chairperson. She was molested by a drunk driver. When she tried to fight back the driver dragged her. This happened in front of the Delhi All India Institute Of Medical Sciences(AIIMS).
Taking to the microblogging site Twitter, DCW chief Swati Maliwal narrated the story. She said that she was inspecting the situation of women's security in Delhi and this happened. She raised a question on whether the DCW chief is also not safe in the national capital.
We can understand her point here. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) works for the safety of women and fights for their rights. But the Chief of the body was allegedly molested by the accused. He was arrested by the Delhi cops. The Police took sharp action as the victim is the DCW Chairperson.
If the victim would have been a common person the action would have not been that swift. We have seen this in the accident case. Despite the eyewitness informing the Police of the accident the response was not fast. The issue again brought the focus on women's safety in the national capital.
As per the information, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal stood in front of AIIMS Gate no 2 waiting for a vehicle at around 3: 11 AM. A driver approached her and asked her to sit inside. She was dragged for 10 to 15 minutes. The driver was identified and arrested by the cops.
