Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reiterates that Special Category Status can't be granted to Andhra Pradesh as it was only part of then PM Manmohan Singh's speech. He, however, gives assurance on fulfilling the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.
Arun Jaitley: 'Andhra Pradesh is in financial crisis post bifurcation. It takes time for achieving all-round development. Good Administration, Strategy and Entrepreneurship will help AP overcome revenue deficit in future. We have established institutions like IIT, NIT and IIM'.
'AP can't be compared with other States. Special Status was granted for Himachal Pradesh as per the recommendations of NDC'.
'States were receiving 42% revenue from Centre. Funds will be released to the states as per the recommendations of 14th Finance Commission. Already, Centre is extending financial support to AP. Funds will be sanctioned for Polavaram Project and Construction of Capital. Just because TDP is an alliance partner, More funds can't be sanctioned'.
