The other day, About Six Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and a VVPAT was recovered from a hotel in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. This is being seen as a major security lapse.
Reportedly, Sector Magistrate Avdesh Kumar took the EVMs to the hotel as his Driver went to the polling booth for casting his vote. After Muzaffarpur SDO Kundan Kumar seized the material, A protest was staged by the locals against the Magistrate at the hotel.
Director Collector Alok Ranjan Ghosh confirmed the dereliction of poll duty. He told, 'Sector Officer was given some reserved EVMs and a VVPAT to replace those malfunctioning. He still had 2 balloting unit, 1 control unit and 2 VVPATs in his car after the replacement of faulty EVMs. He went to the hotel since his Driver went to vote. He shouldn't have gone against the norms. A departmental investigation has to be faced by him'.
Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Magistrate Avdhesh Kumar over the violation of norms.
In the fifth phase of Lok Sabha Polls, Polling happened in 5 Constituencies (Saran, Hajipur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur) in Bihar.
