Ex-DGP Gautam Sawang appointed as Service Commission Chief!

It is known that the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had recently taken a sensational decision to sack Gautam Sawang as the highest police officer rank in the state, Director general of police (DGP). In his place, DG (Intelligence), Kasireddy VRN Reddy was appointed by the government.

As the development had come as a big shock to one all, it had also resulted in a question popping up. Everyone wanted to know in which post, Gautam Sawang would be appointed as he held a supreme position in the Police circle. Various predictions and analyses were made by the experts.

Surprising everyone for one more time, the Andhra Pradesh government had issued orders appointing Gautam Sawang as the Chairman of the state service commission Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission(APPSC). Orders in this effect are expected to be out from the Andhra Pradesh government soon.

It is said that the government took the call as the APPSC Chairman post is vacant for quite some time. As the previous chairman had retired a few months back, the government filled the vacant post with Gautam Sawang reportedly.

One wonders why Gautam Sawang was removed as the DGP and appointed as the APPSC chairman all of a sudden. People and political observers are giving their own versions of the back-to-back sudden developments in the state involving Gautam Sawang.

Gautam Sawang had a long way to reach the top position in the state police force. After getting an IPS degree in the 1986 batch, he was appointed as the ASP in the combined Andhra Pradesh and then promoted as the SP later.

The 58-year-old IPS Officer held various key positions like Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), of the Andhra Pradesh Police. After the bifurcation of the state, he was retained in the divided Andhra Pradesh.

Gautam Sawang had also rendered his services in the Warangal district in the combined state and during his stint in the region, he had trained several bright officers and Stephen Raveendra was one of them.
