Ex-MLA's granddaughter-in-law arrested for ISIS links

The NIA sleuths arrested the daughter-in-law of former MLA BM Idinabba for conspiring to lure youth to join the dreaded ISIS. She has been identified as Mariyam alias Deepthi Marla and is the wife of Anas Abdul Rahiman, who is the second grandson of former MLA Idinabba, who was a staunch Congressman.

MLA's first grandson Ammar is already in NIA custody and Anas is also under arrest. Mariyam was always under watch but the police did not arrest her initially as she had a months-old baby. But, with strong evidence coming out, she has been taking under custody.

In March last year, the police arrested one Abu Yahya and his associates Dr Rasheed and Anwar. In August, further investigations led to the arrest of Ammar and three others. Later, two women from Kerala, who were planning to join ISIS were arrested. Police said that these people helped several people to go to Nangarhar province in Afghanistan via Kashmir.

Deepthi, who was a Hindu was converted to Islam before marriage to Anas. She has later emerged as the kingpin of ISIS recruitment. The woman was running propaganda channels on social media platforms such as Telegram, Instagram and Hoop to preach and propagate ISIS ideology.
