Facts about Malaysian plane crash in Ukraine

A Malaysia Airlines plane carrying 295 people was shot down and crashed near the Russian border with Ukraine, killing everyone onboard. The Boeing 777, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was struck by a missile above the war-torn region.

Intelligence believes a surface-to-air missile was fired at the plane, but it is not clear who shot it.

Here are the few details about the brutal crash.

-The plane left Amsterdam at 12:17 p.m. local time and had been due to arrive in Malaysia at 6:10 a.m. Malaysian time. According to Flight Aware, the plane was traveling at 560 miles per hour.

-Officials busy with getting the details from where the missile was targeted.

-Malaysia Airlines released a full list of passenger nationalities.Passengers included 154 from the Netherlands, 43 (including 15 crew and two infants) from Malaysia, 27 from Australia, 12 (including one infant) from Indonesia, nine from the UK, four from Germany, four from Belgium, three from Philippines, and one from Canada.The origins of 41 passengers remain unverified.

-Among all 100 of the passengers on board were headed to Melbourne, Australia, for an international conference on AIDS research.

-Malaysia Airlines has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace which was identified by an army satellite
-The plane crashed near the town of Grabovo, and was said to be flying at about 33,000 feet before radar lost it.

-According to witnesses on scene, the plane’s black box has been recovered by Russian separatists.

-Pro-Russian rebels are denying any involvement in the crash. "We do not have any idea what this is about and who shot down the plane. We're heading there now to investigate everything independently,"

-Rescuers have recovered as many as 181 bodies so far at the site of the Malaysian airlinercrash in eastern Ukraine
