Union Government informed that around Rs 28 crore of Fake Currency has been detected until September this year. While Rs 27.79 crore were in the form of counterfeit notes, Fake Rs 5 & Rs 10 coins amount to Rs 6.37 lakh.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told Lok Sabha that more than 5.74 lakh pieces of Fake Currency have been unearthed till September 2016.
In 2015, Over 8.86 lakh Fake Currency notes were detected. The total value of these fake notes could be an excess of Rs 43.83 crore.
In 2014, Over 8 lakh Fake notes with face value of Rs 40.58 crore were found.
As per World Bank estimate in 2010, The Shadow Economy of India is up to 23.2 percent of its GDP in 2007.
