Famous Radiologist, Ex-Director of NIMS Kakarla Subba Rao passes away

Well-known radiologist Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao, who had served as the first director of popular Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) breathed his last during the early hours of Friday.

Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao was admitted to Secunderabad Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) last month with some health issues and he has been undergoing treatment since then. While undergoing treatment, he passed away today.

Mr. Rao hails from Pedamuttevi village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He was born on January 25, 1925. He was born into a middle-class family and his family was into agriculture.

He went to Andhra Medical College for his MBBS. During the tenure of former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, N. T. Rama Rao, Subba Rao was made the head of NIMS.

The radiologist is widely credited for developing NIMS after being appointed as the head. For his valuable contributions to the medical field, the Indian government honoured him with Padma Shri.
