Is total body spraying and complete vehicle spraying of Sodium Hypochlorite solution safe? Are the disinfection tunnels planned by the Government at various places totally safe?
Not really, say experts. They are arguing that the Sodium Hypochlorite spray could actually harm the skin and the eyes. The World Health organisation has said that the disinfection tunnels would work only on the external surfaces and have no effect on the internal systems. What more, it this spray enters the eyes of people, it could damage the eyes. It also effects mucous membranes of inside of the mouth and other parts. In fact, the WHO has suggested that the solution would be effective on bacteria, but not so much on viruses.
As a result of these alerts, the Central Government is now having a re-think over using the disinfection chambers. The Central Health ministry has already alerted the officials of various state governments about it.
