Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar resigned on Monday to take over as the new Chief Minister of Goa. President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the resignation of Parrikar from Modi's Council of Ministers with immediate effect. On Tuesday, Manohar Parrikar will take oath as CM of Goa.
From now, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is going to take the additional charge as the Defence Minister. Of course, This isn't the first time Jaitley has done this. He had the additional charge of Defence Ministry from May 2014 to November 2014.
Inspite of falling short of Magic Figure by a big margin, Goa is able to form the Government in Goa with the support of couple of small parties and independents. While BJP won just 13 out of 40 Seats, 3 MLAs each of Goa Forward Party & Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party, and Two Independents extended support to the Saffron Party to help it claim CM Chair. Goa Governor Mridula Sinha invited Parrikar to form the government and prove the majority on the floor of the House within 15 days.
