The massive surge in Corona cases in the country prompted the severely hit states to ramp up the vaccination process. However, states and the Center are playing a blame game against each other over vaccine scarcity.

While states like Maharashtra, Delhi, and others are alleging that the Union government is not supplying vaccine doses in adequate numbers, the Centre is in the opinion that states are wasting the vaccine doses.

Amid this, an Right to Information (RTI) query has revealed that five states in the country are reporting huge vaccine wastage.

As per the RTI query, more than 12 percent of vaccines were wasted in Tamil Nadu, while Haryana (9.74%), Punjab (8.12%), Manipur (7.8%), and Telangana (7.55%) reported the next wastage numbers.

In total, more than 44 lakh doses of vaccines were wasted by the state as of the 11th of April. The vaccination drive against the novel Coronavirus was started across the nation in January this year.

On the other hand, states like God's own country Kerala, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Goa, Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep recorded zero wastage in vaccine doses.

It has to be noted that in one of the meetings with Chief Ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the states to focus on bringing down the vaccine wastage to fight the pandemic.
