Update: 2016-09-02 05:32 GMT
Centre decided to compensate Special Category Status with Special Package. An official announced is likely to be made on September 6th in Andhra Pradesh by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the presence of CM Chandrababu Naidu.

Finance Ministry has completed the exercise on Special Package. The announcement would come after PM Narendra Modi's approval.

Centre agreed to sanction addition 30 percent funds AP would receive with Special Status. Rs 3,000 per year will be allotted as Special Assistance. Rs 250 per year would be granted for Industrial Development

Sujana Chowdhary: 'We are demanding Special Status for 5 years. Centre is ready offer additional 10% benefits to AP with Special Package. Why all these complications? Offering Special Status will be more than enough!'.

'Announcement would be made by Centre within a week. Centre will implement every promise given by then PM Manmohan Singh in Parliament. Actually, He sought special status for 15 years initially. However, We were now asking for 5 years due to the change in situation and increase of state's share in central funds. There are technical issue to accord Special Status due to 14th Finance Commission. Whatever might happen, AP would get benefitted!'.

'While Centre will provide 70% of funds, State with Special Status will have to bear 30%. We are asking Centre to sanction 100% funds for AP. Even sought Union Government to take responsibility of loans acquired from foreign investment firms completely. Where the package would be Rs 1 lakh crore or Rs 5 lakh crore doesn't matter at all'.

'Centre agreed to provide financial assistance to AP Capital based by DPR and 7 backward districts. Income Tax exemption would be granted for Industrial Sector. Centre will bear 90% of Polavaram Project expenditure. Union Government will buit the Durgapatnam Port. Centre will appoint a committee for setting up steel plant in Kadapa. Three international airports (Vijayawada, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam) will be coming up in AP and Centre will take care of them'.

'Tax Exemptions have nothing to do with Special Status. That's why, Manmohan have give 5 assurances apart from Special Status. We willn't tolerate if Centre does injustice to AP. These problems wouldn't have arised if Special Status was included in the Bill. There will no use of dharnas and protests'.
