But the fallout between former skipper Virat Kohli and former coach Anil Kumble will go down as one of the infamous incidents.
Though there are a few reports on what led to the fallout, no one who was close to the BCCI shared information on this. For the first time probably, a person who knew what happened in the saga had shed light on the infamous incident.
Ex COMPTROLLER and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai had written a book on his experiences while working with the BCCI. He had titled the book, 'Not Just a Nightwatchman- My innings in the BCCI'. In the book, he had mentioned the saga between Kohli and Anil Kumble.
Explaining the saga, Vinod Rai had alleged that Anil Kumble being too disciplined made the youngsters feel intimidated and the team management and the then skipper Virat Kohli were of the same opinion. This had led to a difference of opinion which turned into a fallout very soon.
Vinod Rai had quoted Virat Kohli as saying that the disciplined nature of Anil Kumble made the youngsters feel intimidated. I had spoken to Virat Kohli on the issue and he did mention that the younger members of the team felt intimidated by the way he worked with them,â Vinod Rai said.
Recalling the infamous saga, Anil Kumble had resigned from his post as the head coach after the fallout. In the resignation letter, Anil Kumble had highlighted how the issues the team had with his nature made him take the decision. Later former Indian player Ravi Shastri was made the coach. After his tenure came to an end, veteran player Rahul Dravid who groomed young players was given a big responsibility.
