Why Is This Ex-CM Making Controversial Comments?

Update: 2020-05-17 12:42 GMT
Former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj  Chavan is in the news for wrong reasons. Prithviraj, who otherwise is known to be a calm person, suddenly made two comments that raked up controversy. Firstly he said that the Maharashra Vikas Aghadi government, of which the Congress is a partner, is lacking political leadership.

This comment is being seen as anti-Uddhav Thackeray. He has said that the government is being run by a bunch of bureaucrats and that the MVA government has chosen the wrong bureaucrats to run the affairs. This comment is seen as a direct attack on the functioning of Uddhav Thackeray. Prithviraj seems to  be upset with the government as Congress interests are not being taken care off. Other Congress former CM - Ashok Chavan - however is silent. Secondly, Prithviraj stirred up a hornet's nest when he said that the gold worth one trillion dollars lying in temples and mutts should be confiscated and should be used to provide a stimulus to the economy. This has upset the seers, swamis and Mutt leaders so much that they have barred him from entering Kashi Vishwanath Mandir.

Though he tried to justify himself claiming that even Atal Bihari Vajpayee had introduced Gold monetization bonds scheme, he is not cutting much ice. Even the Congress leadership is unhappy that Prithviraj has made these anti-Hindu statements which will harm the political prospects of the Congress Party. Political pundits feel Prithviraj Chavan is trying to assert his presence and wants to indicate to the party High Command that his interests too should be taken care off. Let’s wait and watch how things unfold.
