A special court in Ranga Reddy in Telangana hearing a gangrape case awarded a 20-year jail sentence for the four convicts. The four convicts hail from the eastern Indian state Odisha.
The hard work of the Rachakonda police has paid off as the four convicts were brought before justice in less than 14 months since the horrific gangrape took place in August 2019.
Revisiting the horrific incident, on midnight of August 16 last year, the victim who also belongs to Odisha went out to relieve herself in the nearby bushes. The convicts who noticed this raped her one after the other.
Hearing the victim's screams the locals reached the spot to help her. After seeing the public coming there, the convicts fled the spot. Based on the victim's statement the convicts were arrested.
As the four convicts Rahul Maaji, Manoj Samrat, Durga Samrat, and Dayanidhi Maaji are the natives of Odisha, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M.Bhagwat issued orders under the Preventive Detention Act against them.
The Special Court Atrocities against Women has examined nearly 27 witnesses and sentenced 20-year prison for the accused including a Rs 2,000 fine each.
