An interesting case of whether the gifts given by the parents of the girl for the marriage should be considered as dowry or not has reached the High Court in God's own country Kerala. The Court heard the arguments of both parties and gave a significant order in the case.

The Kerala High Court which heard a petition said that the gifts that were given by parents to their daughter at the time of marriage when the groom did not demand the same cannot be seen as dowry. Justice MR Anitha gave the verdict. The issue reached the court after the husband moved the High Court.

To challenge the orders issued by a Dowry Prohibition Officer, the husband approached the High Court. His wife had raised allegations against him that the gold her parents gave was not being returned by her husband. She even approached the Dowry Prohibition Officer.

The husband then reached the High Court and said, the same gold was deposited with the bank by the family members of his wife and the locked key is with them and said the allegations leveled against him were wrong. The High Court was satisfied with the arguments. What's the problem when he is ready to give the gold, the court asked.
