The Global health agency World Health Organization(WHO) which has been closely monitoring the Covid situation and the impact of the virus in various countries had come up with a new observation.
As per WHO, the Covid in India is expected to reach the endemic stage. The stage is when the pandemic impact will come down gradually.
Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation Dr Soumya Swaminathan made these comments during her recent interview with a leading media outlet.
Her comments came at the time when the experts warned about the chances of India seeing a third wave of Covid in September.
Taking about the rise and fall in the fresh cases in the country since 2020, the WHO Chief Scientist said that factors like the vast population and changes in the immunity in various parts of the country are the reason for this.
Due to these reasons, there has been ups and downs in the cases. While the cases go up a few times, the cases come down a few times, she said.
Going by the observations, we came a conclusion that India might reach a situation where the virus comes with a low transmission rate compared to the current rate, she maintianed.
When asked about the global situation, the Chief Scientist said, by 2020 end, around 70 percent of population might be administered the vaccine doses and the countries might take the things back to normal.
Giving more details on the Covaxin dose getting a green signal from the World Health Organization (WHO), Swaminathan said, the dose might get the approval from the technical team of WHO.
By the mid of September, the vaccine might get the approval as the process is underway. This is going to be a big step towards the vaccinating the people, she said.
The first set of the data of the clinical trials from the Bharat Biotech reached the World Health Organization (WHO) team in the month of July. The pharma company had come up with more data in August. After assessing data submitted by Bharat Biotech in two sets, the technical team posted some questions to the company and the company is giving it's answers, the Chief Scientist added.
