Godhra Train Burning Case Judgement

Godhra Riots which happened when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat had shook the nation. Shocking of all the disturbing incidents is the burning of 59 Kar Sevaks alive in Two Coaches of the Sabarmati Express on February 27th, 2002. During the communal riots, Mob attached Sabarmati Express in which Hindu Pilgrims were returning from Ayodhya.

Judgement of the Godhra Train Burning Case was delivered finally. A Special SIT Court sentenced Two Accused (Farooq Bhana, Imran Sheru) for life term imprisonment after being convicted for conspiring to burn coaches. Three Others (Hussain Suleman Mohan, Kasam Bhamedi, Faruk Dhantiya) were acquitted. About eight accused of this sensation case are still absconding.

In 2011, The SIT Court convicted 31 persons in the Train Coach Burning Case. While 11 of them received capital punishment, 20 others were awarded life term. However, Gujarat High Court converted the death penalty of 11 convicts to life imprisonment and upheld life term for 20 convicts in 2017.
