No hassle while passing through toll gates to pay the amount. The sensors at the toll area estimate the amount the four-wheelers automatically and the amount gets debited from the accounts of the owners. This is what we see in Hollywood films. But we might see this in India as well.
The Indian government, which gave birth to a lot of changes to the toll system in bringing the FASTags system is in plans to remove the toll plazas. By setting up special cameras governments want to bring a system where the toll amount will be generated automatically.
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari hinted at the same at an event. Speaking about the current system, Gadkari said that FASTags have revolutionalized the poll plaza system and around 97 percent of payments at the toll plazas are happening with this.
He said that the government has managed to bring down the waiting period at the toll plazas which is making the commuters get relief from spending longer times at the plaza to pass through the areas. Moreover, the income has also increased at the toll plazas with the current system.
As per the reports, works are underway to test the new system which works in a way that automatic number plate reader cameras will be set up and scan the number plates. Based on the pictures, the amount will be generated. Moreover, the money will be detected from the accounts.
Though setting up the automatic number plate reader cameras is a big task, getting the bank accounts of the vehicle owners is going to be an even bigger task. As a pilot project, a system is being tested and we have to wait and see what the outcome would be.
The congestion and waiting period at the toll plazas decreased with the existing system of FASTag where the vehicle owners have to recharge their cards to pass through the toll plazas. Though the car owners opposed that initially, they are using this as they have to pay an extra amount if they pay without FASTag. Now the government wants to bring even more changes to the toll plaza.
