During the radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the wastage of food in restaurants across the country.
Immediately, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan decided to fix the portion size of food served in hotels to prevent wastage. The Minister questions, 'Why should six prawns be served when a person can eat only two? What's the point in serving 4 idlis when a person could eat only two? It's a complete wastage. On the other hand, People are wasting money for food they don't even eat!.'
Mr.Paswan said a meeting will be conveyed with all the stakeholders to figure out the maximum quantity a person can eat. He, however, clarifies the new rules will be applicable for hotels alone and not for dhabas.
The Concerned Ministry is preparing a questionnaire for restaurants to figure out the portion size which should be served to a customer.
