Health Minister Offers To Be First Volunteer In Phase 3 Covaxin Trial

When the clinical trials to produce a potential vaccine to cure the ongoing pandemic are in full swing, a state Health Minister came forward to be the first volunteer for the clinical trials of the vaccine.

Going into detail, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that the third phase of clinical trials of Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited to cure the pandemic will start on Friday and offered to be the volunteer.

The Health Minister Anil Vij announced the same on his official Twitter handle.“Trial for third phase of Covaxin a coronavirus vaccine product of Bhart Biotech to start in Haryana on 20th November. I have offered myself as first volunteer to get vaccinated,” his tweet read.

Coming to the clinical trials of Covaxin, the Hyderabad-based bio-therapeutics manufacturers Bharatbiotech has kickstarted the third phase of clinical trials on Monday.

In the official statement, Bharat Biotech said that the clinical trials will be conducted across 22 sites in India. The trials will be conducted on 26,000 volunteers. This is the largest clinical trial in the country so far.

Looking at the global scenario, two pharmaceutical corporations Pfizer and Moderna announced that their vaccines have achieved more than 90 percent efficiency in preventing the pandemic in the late-stage clinical trial.
