HCA battle turns into a slugfest between Kavitha and Vivek

Hyderabad Cricket Association elections are fast turning out to be a political slugfest between two major political parties – the TRS and the BJP. Both the parties are trying to get their panels elected. The winner would lord over one of the richest cricket associations in the country.

The elections have become necessary after president and former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was removed by the other HCA members. Following this, Azhar had dissolved the HC using the association's bylaws. As a result, elections have become necessary for the HCR. The HCA has four major factions – each led by former cricketer Arshad Ayub, former India  captain Shivlal Yadav, former India manager Mansingh and Vivek Venkataswami. These people control nearly 120 teams out of the total of 216 teams in Hyderabad.

In the last elections, TRS has isolated Vivek, who had joined the BJP and backed Azharuddin. This time around, Kavitha Kalwakuntla is said to be evincing keen interest in the elections. However, she cannot directly contest as Lodha Commission has recommended non-politicians to be appointed as chairperson. So, she is said to be bringing various factions together against Vivek. Vivek too is making every effort to win the elections.  The winner can play a key role in the BCCI at the national level. Hence both the parties have turned it into a battle for prestige.
