Slit My Throat: CM to High Court

Update: 2017-09-21 16:26 GMT
The Calcutta High Court cancelled the ban imposed by West Bengal Government on the immersion of Durga idols on Muharram.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered a ban of immersion of idols after 10 PM on September 30th when Durga pooja ends and on Muharram day on grounds that there could be trouble. However, Calcutta High Court lifted the ban saying Mamata has been exercising extreme power without any basis. 'CM herself told Hindus and Muslims live in harmony in the state. Let them live in harmony, don't draw a line between them,' the court said.

HC directed West Bengal Government to allot separate routes and make adequate security arrangements to prevent overlapping of Durga idol immersion processions & Tazia processions on Muharram. This is how Mamata responded to the court order: 'Slit my throat but no one can tell Me what to do. I will do what I could to maintain peace'.
