Reacting on the protest of the lawyers of Kurnool Bar Association demanding for setting up of a High Court in Kurnool, in the Rayalaseema, Ravi Sankar Prasad, Minister for Law and Justice, Union Government explained that the matter of setting up and running of the High Court is under the domain of State government.
Ravi Sankar Prasad said under Article 214 of the Constitution there shall be a High Court for each State. On January 1 this year, a separate high court for AP has been established at Amaravati in consultation with Andhra government and the then chief justice. The AP high court has a sanctioned strength of 37 judges, but the present strength is 15. Telangana HC has a sanctioned strength of 24, but presently there are only 13 judges.
