Update: 2018-02-08 09:28 GMT
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shot back at the Congress Party which has been opposing the Triple Talaq law proposed by NDA Government as per Supreme Court directions. While referring to the resignation of Congress leader Arif Mohammad Khan after then Central Government refused to end the practice despite Supreme Court judgement in the Shah Bano case in 1985, He questioned why Congress failed to enact a law in the best interest of Muslim Women over the past three decades.

The Muslim Women Protection of Rights in Marriage Bill 2017 made instant 'Triple Talaq' a punishable offence attracting a jail term for a period of 3 years. Whereas, Congress argues who will take care of the family if the sole bread-winner goes to jail.

However, PM Narendra Modi defended the new law saying even a Hindu is sentenced to prison if he marries twice. 'Why didn't Congress ask how his family survives when a Hindu Man resorting to double marriage was jailed?,' he asks.

Modi accused Congress of delaying abolition of Triple Talaq for the sake of vote-bank politics. The reply from PM received a thumping response from MPs part of NDA.
