Is Congress gradually losing the initiative in Telangana? Despite getting more votes than the BJP, the political leaders are increasingly seeing the BJP as the to-go party. Despite its presence everywhere and despite having a loyal band of voters, the Congress is not being preferred. There appears to be some kind of rethink in the Congress over this these days.
The case in point is Etela Rajender. When he had decided to quit the TRS, his first choice was the Congress Party. He first gave indications that he would join the Congress. He met CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and held long discussions with him. He had also prepared to meet PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy. He had even sought an appointment. But, for some reason, this meeting could not happen. Later, Etela slowly drifted toward the BJP. The BJP not just welcomed him but even facilitatd a meeting with no less a person than partyâs national president JP Nadda. Soon, things were sorted out and Etela walked over into the BJP.
Why did the Congress fail to grab the opportunity and where did it go wrong? It seems some leaders in the Congress Party in Telangana are wondering why not just Etele, but other leaders like Chandrasehar of Vikarabad, Vijayashanti and others are also preferring the BJP to the Congress. These leaders feel that such lost chances will further weaken the party.
