How Gavaskar saved a Family during Mumbai riots?

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was honoured with the Golden Jubilee Life Time Achievement Award by the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai recently.

Gavaskar's Son Rohan who attended the felicitation ceremony recalled a courageous act of his father during 1993 Mumbai riots. 'Few days after the bomb blasts, We are standing on our terrace. That's when a hate mob surrounded a family and they had really bad intentions. Soon, My father ran down and challenged the mob to touch him before harming the family. Later, The family was allowed to go its way. Putting your life at risk for the sake of others takes special kind of courage,' he revealed.

Rohan Gavaskar reminds his father faced the deadly fast bowlers of West Indies without even wearing a helmet.

Sunil Gavaskar shared West Indies legendary cricketer Gary Sobers used to touch him before the day's play for good luck in 1971. Knowing it, Indian skipper Ajit Wadekar hid Gavaskar in the toilet during the final test.
