Even as the ruling TRS is smarting under a humiliating performance in the just-concluded GHMC elections, cold facts regarding its poor show are emerging. It is now becoming increasingly clear that the squabbles between the sitting corporators and the sitting MLAs have ruined the show for the TRS.
In several places, the MLAs tried to get non-compliant corporators out of the way. They made every effort to deny them party ticket. When not possible, the MLAs adopted a blatantly non-cooperative stance. The result? The defeat of the TRS. The TRS leadership realised this and immediately appointed MLAs and leaders from outside as election managers, but it was already too late.
Five years ago, the TRS had made a clean-sweep of LB Nagar, Musheerabad, Sanatnagar and Uppal constituencies. This success was repeated in 2018 assembly polls too. This time, however, the TRS lost 15 divisions due to internecine squabbles. In Musheerabad, the TRS has lost six seats, of which, five are sitting seats. Former Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy's son-in-law Srinivasa Reddy blamed his defeat on the non-cooperation of sitting MLA Mutha Gopal. Conversely, the MLA's close relative Padma lost from Gandhinagar due to the sabotage by the local leaders.
In Uppal, the sitting party corporators are not on good terms with sitting MLA Bethi Subhash Reddy. ensured that the party candidates lose the elections. Several candidates, including Reddy's wife, had lost the elections. The same story was repeated in Sanatnagar, represented by Minister Talasani Srinvas Yadav. In Rajendranagar too, the local leaders ensured the defeat of local MLA's close relatives.
